I just measure out what I need to cover the window, make a hem at the top (fold over about 2 inches and seal with duct tape) and hang on a wire or use a regular curtain rod. I also made a curtain for our patio/sliding door (had to use one full blanket and cut a smaller piece out of another one).
Our kitchen faces west and was so hot during the summer that no one wanted to eat at the table by suppertime. Once I put up the solar curtains, it made the kitchen about 10 - 20 degrees cooler. You can also see through them pretty well, so we can still see the back yard.
I've never used them as an emergency blanket so can't say how they work for that, but as solar curtains, they are wonderful!
I just opened them up and covered two large skylights easily and quickly, one blanket on each. At one point the wind was blowing and the mylar blanket was blown about, but it did not tear, even though I was clamping it onto the skylight with sharp metal binder clips. So they are pretty durable!
So now I have two reusable reflective covers for my two large skylights, and eight more mylar blankets to place in the trunks of our cars or use in case of an earthquake. All for less than 7 bucks!
stocking stuffer for some friends and relatives if you live in the cold northern states. A MUST HAVE emergency item for your cars/vans
or whatever. I even put a couple in my bug-out bag.

These came to me with each blanket packaged in an individual zipper bag. All 10 were together in a larger zipper bag. Great for pulling out one and leaving the rest undisturbed.
This fit perfectly under my queen sized air mattress. I use it between the ground and the air mattress when the mattress is directly on the floor of my tent. It helps reflect the body heat back up, instead of it all being lost into the ground. I prefer placing it under the mattress so that there is less "crinkling" when I move around,
There are, of course, many many uses for these beyond the simple emergency use.
