Product Description
100M Water Resistance and 10-Year Battery life makes this watch the perfect choice for those looking for top cost performance in a timepiece.
The Casio Men's Classic Digital Sport Watch features an intuitive design that makes it easy-to-use for on-the-go athletes. The timepiece is constructed with a durable resin case, a stationary black resin bezel, and a black resin band with an adjustable buckle clasp. A durable mineral window shields the square digital-gray dial face, which features a digital time display along with the day, date, and month. The watch also includes light, mode, and adjust buttons that allow you to personalize your watch display to suit your workout. The digital-quartz-powered timepiece is water resistant to 330 feet.
Casio
With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.
Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

I've done the smartwatch thing with a couple of different models, and I just don't get enough value from the information they offer to justify their extraordinary cost or the considerable trouble of keeping them charged (the latter being my main complaint).
This humble Casio watch is the perfect answer to all that. It tells me the current day, date, and time at a glance. If I need to see this information in a dark room, there's a dedicated button for that. That's all I need from a watch. I particularly like this watch's size. It's small enough that it doesn't get caught on cuffs or pockets or backpack straps (usually). I do lots of outdoor stuff, so I needed a watch that doesn't mind getting wet, and this watch seems to do just fine in and under water.
I do kind of wish it would automatically change to and from Daylight Saving Time, but if running the time forward or back twice a year is as demanding as this watch gets, I'm certainly not going to whine about that.
So I've been very pleased with this purchase. If you're looking for a simple, rugged, watch that just lets you live your life without giving it much thought, I think you'll be pleased with it too.

I should note that the watch band snapped off back in August, 2 years and 5 months after getting the watch. That's happened with other watches with resin bands that I've owned, always around the 2-3 year mark. I heard it's from sweat or showers hardening the resin or something. That could make sense as I never take mine off except when I'm rock climbing. Regardless, I just grabbed a cheap 18mm silicone watch strap for 12.99 and it's been fine ever since (bought silicone because I heard they don't snap. I'll update this if it ever does).
I plan to use this watch forever. If it breaks, I'll buy a new one for the price of a burger + onion rings. I've gone through a dozen watches over the past 25 years or so, but this is the first one that I loved. It has everything I want without a bunch of other useless expensive crap that I'll never use (looking at you, altimeter; and that's coming from a hiker). It's cheap, reliable (anecdotally), has a fast band replacement process, no feature-bloat, has large text, and is DECENTLY water resistant. The only downside is that the watch isn't 200m water resistant. If it was, it'd be perfect for me. Anyway, I don't go surfing/swimming with it, but it hasn't fogged up after 2+ years of showers, rain, sweat, etc. If you want a cheap watch, I recommend this one (unless you're an avid surfer). Or if you're like me and willing to fork over $100 for a watch, maybe buy this anyway. It's certainly much better than the $21 price-tag would have you believe.
**EDIT** 12/12/23
I made the above review over a year ago, but I realized that I couldn't verify that the 27 seconds of drift was accurate. Well, I decided to run a little experiment over the past year and record the drift every few months (basically whenever I remembered I was even doing this) and it turns out that the drift WASN'T accurate. After a year, my watch drifted 58 seconds. To get that 27 second value, I might have reset my watch whenever we had daylight saving time or something, hence the inaccurate drift. Anyway, I included the recorded values below (MM/DD/YY format) in case someone is interested. Also, I used time.gov for the baseline comparison.
12/11/22 9:55PM - 0 seconds fast
01/19/23 6:18PM - 5 seconds fast
02/22/23 12:48PM - 10.5 seconds fast
04/15/23 9:00PM - 18.5 seconds fast
05/08/23 8:22PM - 22 seconds fast
06/27/23 12:52PM - 30 seconds fast
09/06/23 8:15PM - 41 seconds fast
11/05/23 7:18PM - 51 seconds fast
12/11/23 9:55PM - 58 seconds fast
This basically means my watch drifts by a little more than 1 second every week (1sec/~6.29days). For my needs, that's fine. I'm not doing anything in my daily life that requires long-term precision to the second, and I have to reset it every so often anyway for the aforementioned daylight saving time, so I don't mind at all. Other than that, the watch still works great (nearing 4 years now) and the "new" silicone watchband is still great too (although it hasn't hit that 2-3 year breakdown point yet). So, all in all, still happy with it.
Reasons for NOT being 5 stars:
1. Does not come stock with a countdown timer. Although you can (and I did) YouTube a quick guide on how to add one. Really easy and completely transforms the functionality of the watch.
2. The LED green light is not the BEST, but better than most. In my opinion, the orange LED from the Casio AE-1200WH would have been a huge upgrade.
If Casio would have made this watch with the above 2 things, this watch would have been a 5 star +++ major home run and I would have gladly purchased for even double the price. Other than those 2 things, and at around 20 bucks, this watch is unbeatable. Digits are easy to read, 100m is plenty of water resistance, it's lightweight, and not too big or too small. Straps are easy to remove and upgrade as shown in my pictures/video. Honestly what more do you really need? The biggest positive in my opinion is the ability to show the current time while you are in stop watch or (the manually added) count down timer mode. This is something the overly hyped TikTok and YouTube viral AE-1200WH aka "Casio Royal" lacks.
Overall, very solid purchase and extremely useful. Next best thing outside of the G-Shock 5600E-1V.

If you are in the market for a compact digital watch and you like the classic style of the 91W and A158W, but you have trouble reading such small numbers, the 800W is a model you should consider. It would also make a great first watch for kids, students on a budget and as a daily wear watch for young professionals and even for public servants/law enforcement/first responders.
The digits are big enough to read with the naked eye, specially when it's dark. The back light illuminates the whole screen reasonably well, and it comes in a light green color which is brighter than the traditional yellow incandescent back light. The display shows the information in a very clean , easy to read layout: time, year-month-date, and day of the week.
Very simple, easy to use, compact, comfortable to wear, and also the strap is extra long, so if you have a thicker wrist, this one is going to fit you much better than the 91W.
IMO this watch is the epitome of simplicity, functionality, comfort , precision and great price. Few things offer such a great value for money than this Casio 800W.
Questo casio (che avevo anche da bambino) resiste a docce bollenti, saune, piscina, mare, tuffi.
Un carro armato di affidabilità. Non vi lascia mai a piedi !
