This worked pretty well but there are some pros and cons. I cleaned an area roughly approximated at 6' x 8'.
PROS:
1. The gadget saves my back. Having the long handle kept me from having to kneel and scrub.
2. The foam sprays in very evenly using the gadget. I was able to do small sections of the carpet at a time and let the "tracks" of foam guide me. You can see what I mean in the video. I was actually using one hand to hold the phone to record while using the other hand for the gadget. That gives an idea of how easy it is to use the gadget. However, to do a good scrubbing job, I needed both hands to really work in the foam.
3. For my moderately dirty carpet (about 8 month's worth of heavy foot-traffic dirt) this worked pretty well.
4. To get the gadget and 1 can of the foam at this price wasn't awful. It seemed a little high at first, but because the gadget worked so well at distributing the foam (not to mention my not having to bend and scrub) made this kind of a bargain.
CONS:
1. For a small area - just my tiny entryway area between the kitchen, bath, and bedroom - I went through over 2 cans. I'm glad that I bought a 4-pack of the Resolve High Traffic Carpet Foam 22-ounce cans just in case. The one can that came with the gadget only worked for the small area right across the entryway - I'm guessing 6' x 3'.
2. The handle is kind of flimsy. I had to hold one hand lower on the handle to keep it feeling sturdy enough. (Still, for the price, I can't complain!) I am considering using some packing take to add some stability. I don't mind storing the device in a standing position with the rest of my mops and floor cleaners.
3. I can't be absolutely sure but I think that the High Traffic foam worked a lot better than the stuff that came included. It at least worked better without so much scrubbing on my part.
Overall, I really do like this method. It made cleaning the carpet a lot easier than kneeling and scrubbing. Normally, it takes me a long time because I have to stop and rest my back. Today, I was able to do the entire entryway in probably 3 minutes - and that was with me going back over some spots more than once.
I live in a humid climate so my carpets were nowhere near dry after just 2 hours - even in the spots where I didn't pre-dampen. I just let them dry overnight before vacuuming. I don't have kids or pets so I didn't notice a difference in the smell.
