ABOUT TAETEA
The oldest hand-made tea method has been used to retain the original taste of Pu'er tea.
-
Founded in 1940, TAETEA is a leading tea producer in China. Inheriting the eighty-three-year-old classic approach of manufacturing Pu-erh, TAETEA has been providing the top-tier quality tea and as time goes by, the characteristic will only be even more distinguishing.
TAETEA Pu-erh uses sun-dried green tea made from large-leaved assamica plants as raw materials that grow in an area of a mild climate, abundant rainfall, and sufficient light
-
How to store Pu'er tea?
Shade: Pu-erh tea cannot be exposed to the sun. It should be stored below 30 degrees Celsius (do not store it in the refrigerator). Keep it indoor with a year-round temperature between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.
Ventilation and Dry: Pu-erh tea should be stored in a relatively dry place with a maximum humidity of 75%. However, much dehydration will slow down the aging of Pu-erh tea, so it needs certain moisture. Place a glass of water next to the tea leaves to increase the humidity in the air slightly when it is stored in an arid environment.
-
How to make a cup of Pu'er tea?
Input: Weigh 8 grams of tea leaves, or add some more if you like ( the ratio of tea and water is about 1:20).
Washing: brew with boiling water then pour it quickly to awaken the tea and its essence.
Brewing: Inject boiled water at a fixed point; avoid high impact; ensure the temperature.
Pouring: brew for 5 to 8 seconds to pour soup quickly. Thrice, after, prolong the infusion appropriately.
Tasting: Distribute the liquor evenly into the cup. Three mouthfuls each time, and be aware of the tea’s temperature.

I purchased the 7542 large cake, the cake I received is produced in 2019. Tasting it in September 2023, it is good for the money. There are some Lao Ban Zhang smoky notes in the first few infusions when brewed very strongly (about 6-7 grams per 100 ml). And later it gets more and more gentle. The tea does respond well to different brewing methods. It works well in hongni/zhuni pot. I don't have a zini pot, so I can't comment on that. It have the drastically different notes like very young sheng pu erh cakes between brews (less than 2 years old). But it tastes great for the price and age. The body sensation feels warming on a cold and damp day. I understand now why this is the benchmark for sheng pu erh teas.
If you spend more money, sure, you can get "better" cakes. But spending less money can lead to weirder tastes and body sensations.
It is not an accurate representation of really young pu erh or aged pu erh cakes since it is only about 5 years old. But I think it's a worthwhile addition for someone who never tried it and already have a number of other cakes.
It is also good for beginners pu erh drinker to try if you don't have the budget to buy some of the more reputable specific regions of pu erh teas. But if you can buy smaller quantities of other pu erh teas, try those first before buying a 300+gram cake.
Also, Ive seen reviews for similar products noting that this tastes incomplete a not like puer that they are use to. There are 2 types of puer, raw(sheng) and cooked/ripe (shou). This is a sheng, and a young sheng at that, which typically people age for a while before drinking. That is a matter of preference, and a lot of people like myself enjoy drinking them young as well. Ripes are good to go right out of the package, though aging can help. If you dont think this tastes like what your familiar with, it is probably because you are use to aged shengs or ripes, and you may opt for a ripe dayi like a 7572. These young shengs will taste bitter and smokey, with a bit of tobacco flavor. They will sweeten and become more malty and complex with age.

Carefully pry the leaves from the cake to keep them as whole as possible. You can pry from the outside toward the center. Use a Puerh knife or a letter opener. Be careful and take your time. Put the selected leaves in a cup. Pour boiling water over the leaves and rinse for 4-5-seconds and dump (Rinsing the leaves to start hydration). Then pour boiling water over the leaves again and steep for 20 seconds and pour into vessel and into a cup to drink. Add 5-seconds to each subsequent brew. After pouring all the water out from each brewing, allow the leaves to be uncovered until the next brew. Do not be afraid to adjust the brew times to meet your personal taste requirements. The flavors unfold during each brew.
Curious about raw Puerh, but remain doubtful about what to try? My personal opinion is that you will be pleased with this selection. I was very happy with the selection. I prefer Raw over Ripe Puerh, but that is me, others may have different opinions. I was very happy with the selection of this 357-gram cake. It was from year 2019 and had a 1902 designation, meaning it was the second batch of 2019.
Taetea is a noted brand in China. They make many selections. This is a good portal for your initial experience. One person's point of view at least.
The price wasn't expensive at $20 for the 150gm cake. But I have a lot of great young sheng that I bought for around $45 per 357gm cake. So it isn't less expensive than the good stuff.
In short, if you like it, drink it. I'm not going to throw it away, but it probably won't get drunk very fast as there are a lot of great teas out there and only so many hours in the day.

Very flavorful warm grape and plum undertones with main puerh flavour and an astringent zing aftertaste.
Smells very distinctly of strong raw puerh.

I give it two stars because it doesn’t have any funky smell to it, that’s the only good thing about this tea cake.
