You have to make sure you use enough water. I use 1 cup of rice to 2 1/2 cups of water, i put in a little salt and olive oil or margarine. I bring it to a boil, turn the heat down, cover it and let it cook till all the water is gone. It turns out perfect every time.

It is my understanding that, unless it&#39;s parboiled rice, it is going to take a lot longer to cook. It should be cooked in about 45-50 minutes.

Bougth the great value brown rice, have been cooking the rice for half hour and is not done yet. Actually is really hard still. Why?

When cooking this rice on stovetop, I double the amount of water and bring to a boil for 5 min then then I turn down the heat to low and let cook for another 20 min.  Rice comes out fluffy.

This brown rice cooks really well.

I have been buying Great Value Natural Brown Long Grain Rice for years. Sadly, the quality control seems to be declining. Apart from the bits and husks that are needed to be sorted out during the initial rinse before boiling, there has been an increase in rice still in the hull. I have to pick out several before serving my family.  I've attached a photo of rice grains from our most recent meal.   :(

Still Good, But Quality Control Needed

The listing and the item are for a 2-lb bag of rice, but the first picture shows a 5-lb bag! The rice itself if fine, I've been able to cook successfully with my instant pot and rice cooker.

I've bought this rice several times before and never had a problem, until now. I prepped a large batch of the rice, and after it was cooked I realized that MANY of the grains still had the hull. They were hard as rocks even after boiling for 30 minutes. Way too many to just pick them out. When I checked the uncooked rice in the bag, lots of grains still had the hull, and there a bunch of loose hulls and debris mixed in. Had to throw out the uncooked rice too. Horrible quality control. Will not buy again.

This is the second time I've bought this product and it was infested with larvae, which I did not realize until they became full blown moths. Revolting.

Omgeee I just opened a bag of rice I just bought three days ago at Wal-Mart. Started pouring it into four separate cups and saw black spots and thought someone put away dishes wet and it mildewed, THEN I saw black spots moving in a different cup. The rice was FULL of these and I mean full....
I put them in the sink to get a better look and put dawn and hot water on them. Yes I had the bag of rice in one of my clear sealed canisters. 
It had to have come from store like that. Oh Lord I'm glad I just didn't toss it in my pantry. Yes I've already check stuff in my pantry. This is not the first time I've seen bugs in packaging at this specific Wal-Mart but this time it got past me.
