It mostly is done and soft. I just tried using butter to see if that helps but it doesn't get crunchy. It may get a crust that feels like it if you leave it in longer but not like the way you are asking because I like waffles that can be made a bit crunchy.
The copper nonstick is what does this softer waffle and makes it good but not crunchy the way I like also.

A long time ago I had one that has the flip action like hotels or restaurants and that one did make crunchy waffles but it also was more of a heavier waffle maker that felt like cast iron plates. 
I got this on black friday of 2018. Still works good and fast. The ones that make them crunchy take longer and I just saw one of the flip ones are on sale for $14.99 from $39.99 but I am sure it will be off sale soon.

Does it get hot enough to make them brown and a bit crunchy?

As big as the waffle maker is, it can be up to that big. 
If you add less batter, it can be made smaller. 
You can see the dimensions or see it in the store and take a tape measure to it if you wish.

Yes, it does.  So do their other products such as an air fryer and skillet that I bought from themZ. Returning all products.

I love the size.  The coating is fine without any greasing, no sticking! Very,  very happy with this purchase.

Exceeded my expectations! I was leery on how well the non-stick would hold up, but itâs been great so far. Itâll still need a slight non-stick spray if youâre making banana or chocolate chip waffles, but normal ones come right out. The waffles are thick like youâd get in a restaraunt and only take a couple minutes to cook.

Perfect non - stick waffle maker is just what everyone needs.  I have used this more times since getting tan I ever had to make pancakes.  Easy cleanup.

I'm not impressed with this... guess it's good I didn't spend a ton. It cooks very unevenly. The waffles are either not crispy or burnt... and always gummy on the inside. too bad I don't still have the box to return it and get something better

I was very Disappointed to open what appears to be a used waffle maker. There were small animal like hairs when I first opened the box. (We have no pets) When I sat the unit down it was uneven. When I turned it over I found wires sticking out! Its definitely going back.
